![]() ![]() The Shimakaze was laid down on the 8 th of August 1941 in the Maizuru Naval Arsenal, a IJN-ran shipyard which specializes in vessels destroyer class and smaller. One of the new warships built was the Shimakaze, an experimental prototype of a new class of heavy fleet destroyer. With increasing foreign support for the Chinese (particularly the United States overseas), the Imperial Japanese Navy decides to expand their naval armaments through the 4th Naval Armaments Supplement Programme, consisting of 80 new warships and 75 naval aviation units. ![]() While the Japanese Armed Forces has largely been successful up to 1939, the Chinese resistance and guerrilla tactics ultimately led to unprecedented defeats in Chang Sha and south Guang Xi. It has long been known, ever since their contribution to the fall of the Chinese Dynast (The Eight-Nation Alliance), Japan’s hunger for China’s raw material reserves, food and labour to power their ever growing imperial ambition and war machine. The year was 1939, the 2 nd major conflict between China and Japan was in full swing, now entering their 2 nd year of war.
